He is a chocolate working labrador and was 7 weeks old when I took him home.
His training started as soon as he arrived in my home.
On this page I will let you all know of his progress and add pictures of him.
He is now 20 weeks old and the 25/10/09 and he is doing very well.
I also take home other puppies that need help and with these and my own dog Copper he is becoming a lovely young dog, a bit of a softy and lazy; a typical "hoover labrador!!!" but a lovely intelligent dog to work with and live with.
If you see me about stop us and say hello!! But remember if an assistant dog has their jacket on:
PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THEM!
they need to learn that when a jacket goes on that they must work and focus only on their handler.
Tobys training will involve spending his first year in my home, this is the very important job of our volunteer socialisers.
From there if he passes his puppy assessment with the centre - he will go into the centre kennels for 16 weeks advanced training.
If he passes all his assessments during these weeks he will be then be placed within a partnership; dogs and new mums and dads are selected very carefully to match well - our instructors will then spend another 8 weeks training them to all the things they need to do to help their new families.
Toby has now moved to another socialiser to get a lot more habituation and socialising done..he will hopefully be coming into the centre for his advanced training the end of May.
On his final weekend with me we had a lot of snow and these are some of the last pictures taken of him and Copper.
He has grown into a lovely big confident boy and me, Tom and Copper miss him very much..but we know one day he is going to make someone very happy.
